A 5 Days Midrange Safari from Moshi After Trekking is one of the best Tanzania safari extensions for travelers who have just finished climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru. After days of trekking, early mornings, cold nights and physical effort, a midrange safari gives you the perfect balance of comfort, relaxation and adventure.

Starting from Moshi, this 5-day safari allows you to visit some of northern Tanzania’s most famous wildlife destinations, including Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. It is an excellent choice for travelers who want more time than a 4-day safari, but still prefer a short and manageable itinerary after trekking.

This safari is especially suitable for Kilimanjaro climbers who want to celebrate their summit success with wildlife viewing, beautiful landscapes, comfortable lodges and unforgettable game drives. Instead of returning home immediately after the mountain, you can complete your Tanzania adventure with elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, buffaloes, flamingos, hyenas, cheetahs and possibly the rare black rhino.

A 5 days midrange Tanzania safari from Moshi gives you enough time to enjoy the Serengeti more comfortably, explore Ngorongoro Crater, experience Tarangire’s elephants and baobab trees, and finish with the scenic beauty of Lake Manyara.

Why Choose a 5 Days Safari from Moshi After Trekking?

Moshi is the main base for many Mount Kilimanjaro trekking routes. After completing Machame, Marangu, Lemosho, Rongai, Umbwe or Northern Circuit routes, many travelers spend a night in Moshi before starting a safari. This makes Moshi a convenient and practical starting point.

A 5 Days Midrange Safari from Moshi After Trekking gives you more comfort and better pacing than a rushed short safari. After trekking, your body may feel tired, so having five days allows you to travel at a more relaxed rhythm while still visiting top safari destinations.

This safari is perfect for:

  • Kilimanjaro climbers after summit success
  • Mount Meru trekkers looking for a safari extension
  • Couples celebrating a trekking achievement
  • Families who want comfort after an active adventure
  • Solo travelers joining a private or group safari
  • Friends and groups after Kilimanjaro
  • Travelers who want Serengeti and Ngorongoro with less rush
  • Visitors planning Tanzania safari holidays in 2026 or 2027

A midrange safari gives more comfort than camping while remaining more affordable than luxury packages. You will enjoy private transport, professional guiding, comfortable lodges or tented camps, good meals and well-planned game drives.

Detailed 5 Days Midrange Safari Itinerary from Moshi After Trekking

Day 1: Moshi to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, your safari guide will meet you for a briefing before starting the journey to Tarangire National Park. Since this safari is designed for travelers coming from trekking, your departure can be adjusted depending on your energy level. However, leaving early gives you more time for wildlife viewing.

The drive from Moshi takes you through local towns, villages, farms and open countryside. After several days on the mountain, the change from alpine landscapes to warm savannah scenery feels refreshing.

Tarangire National Park is famous for its large elephant herds, giant baobab trees and beautiful river valley. The Tarangire River attracts many animals, especially during the dry season. This makes the park an excellent first destination for a safari after Kilimanjaro.

After entering the park, you will enjoy a game drive in search of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, baboons and many bird species. Lions and leopards may also be seen, although sightings depend on luck and season.

You will enjoy lunch inside the park or at a picnic area, then continue with an afternoon game drive. Later, you will drive to your midrange lodge or tented camp near Tarangire, Karatu or the surrounding area.

After trekking, this first safari evening is a chance to relax, enjoy a hot shower, eat a good dinner and sleep in a comfortable bed.

Main Activities: Drive from Moshi, Tarangire game drive, wildlife photography and overnight stay.

Meals: Lunch and dinner.

Accommodation: Midrange lodge or tented camp near Tarangire or Karatu.

Day 2: Tarangire / Karatu to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will leave your lodge and begin the journey toward Serengeti National Park. This is a beautiful travel day with changing landscapes, from highlands to open plains.

Depending on your route, you may pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The scenery becomes more dramatic as you approach the Serengeti, one of the most famous wildlife destinations in the world.

Serengeti National Park is known for endless grasslands, big cats, the Great Migration and classic African safari scenery. For many travelers, visiting Serengeti after climbing Kilimanjaro becomes the second major highlight of their Tanzania trip.

You will enjoy game viewing as you enter the park and drive toward your accommodation. Along the way, you may see lions, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, hyenas and many birds. If you are lucky, you may spot cheetahs in the open plains or leopards resting in trees.

In the evening, you will arrive at your midrange tented camp or lodge in Serengeti. After check-in, you can relax, enjoy dinner and listen to the natural sounds of the wilderness.

Main Activities: Scenic transfer to Serengeti, en-route game drive and afternoon wildlife viewing.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Accommodation: Midrange tented camp or lodge inside or near Serengeti National Park.

Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

Day 3 is dedicated to exploring Serengeti National Park. This is one of the biggest advantages of choosing a 5-day safari instead of a shorter itinerary. You get more time inside the Serengeti, better chances for wildlife sightings and a more relaxed safari experience.

After early breakfast, you will leave for a full-day game drive with packed lunch. Your guide will choose the best areas depending on wildlife movement, season and recent sightings. Serengeti is huge, so having an experienced guide is very important.

You may see lions resting on kopjes, cheetahs scanning the plains, elephants moving in family groups, giraffes feeding from acacia trees, zebras and wildebeest grazing, hyenas patrolling open areas and hippos resting in pools. Birdlife is also excellent, with eagles, vultures, rollers, storks and many other species.

If you travel during migration season in the right area, you may see large herds of wildebeest and zebras. However, the Great Migration is a natural movement and its exact location changes depending on rain and grazing conditions.

This full day in Serengeti gives you time for photography, animal tracking and peaceful moments in the wilderness. After the game drive, you will return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Main Activities: Full-day Serengeti game drive, wildlife viewing, photography and relaxation.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Accommodation: Midrange tented camp or lodge in Serengeti National Park.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Your day begins with breakfast at the camp or lodge, followed by a morning game drive as you leave Serengeti. Morning is a great time to search for predators because animals are often more active before the heat becomes strong.

You may see lions moving through the grass, hyenas returning from night activity, elephants feeding, giraffes walking across the plains, and antelopes grazing in large numbers. Your guide will continue looking for wildlife as you drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The drive from Serengeti to Ngorongoro is scenic and gives you another chance to enjoy Tanzania’s open landscapes. You may pass through Maasai areas, highlands and viewpoints depending on the route.

Later in the day, you will arrive near Ngorongoro Crater or Karatu for dinner and overnight stay. The cooler highland climate feels peaceful after the Serengeti plains. This evening is a good time to rest before the crater tour the next morning.

Main Activities: Morning Serengeti game drive, en-route wildlife viewing and transfer to Ngorongoro area.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Accommodation: Midrange lodge or tented camp near Ngorongoro or Karatu.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Return to Moshi, Arusha or Airport

After early breakfast, you will drive to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend to the crater floor for a game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful wildlife areas and a perfect final destination for your safari after trekking.

The crater floor has grasslands, forests, swamps, lakes and open plains, creating a rich habitat for many animals. You may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, jackals, warthogs and many bird species. If you are lucky, you may also see the rare black rhino from a distance.

Because wildlife is concentrated within the crater, Ngorongoro is especially rewarding for travelers with limited time. It gives you a strong final safari experience before returning to town.

After the game drive and lunch, you will drive back to Moshi, Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport depending on your travel schedule. This marks the end of your 5 Days Midrange Safari from Moshi After Trekking.

Main Activities: Ngorongoro Crater game drive, wildlife viewing, photography and return transfer.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch.

Drop-Off: Moshi, Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Optional Alternative: Include Lake Manyara National Park

Some travelers prefer to include Lake Manyara National Park in the 5-day itinerary. This can be arranged depending on your travel style and preferred route.

A possible alternative itinerary is:

  • Day 1: Moshi to Tarangire National Park
  • Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
  • Day 3: Full-day Serengeti game drive
  • Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro / Karatu
  • Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater or Lake Manyara, then return to Moshi
Lake Manyara is famous for beautiful scenery, groundwater forest, baboons, elephants, flamingos, hippos and birdlife. It is a good option if you want a softer final day, but Ngorongoro Crater is usually more recommended for first-time safari travelers.
